In this talk, Matt Hartle will lead you through the steps necessary to produce a visual effect from finished design to final composite. En route, we will examine the modeling, texturing, animation, lighting and rendering using Mental Ray. We then visited the composite layers in After Effects, using a composition with a 3D camera exported from Maya. By putting the camera in Maya, we will be able to integrate elements photographed with our items delivered to create a final composite. Layers rendering our scene Maya include beauty, ambient occlusion, particulate matter, ground fog and alpha color among others.

BEHIND THE SCENES (BTS) is an exciting DVD series developed to showcase the creation of a game cinematic sequence. In this chapter of the series Simeth Jared demonstrates the creation of two flat paints. From the tables provided by BTS concept art director Mark Goerner, Jared goes through the process of creating simple 3D geometry corresponding to the camera in Maya. In Photoshop, it runs both a pan and tile style 2D matte painting and the other for use with a 3D camera movement. It covers techniques for capturing, creating custom brushes and work with Photoshop tools perspective. In Maya, Jared project shows how to paint on 3D geometry to move the camera end. The viewer will also see production meetings in which both the concept and implementation are discussed and criticized.
